Classic Cars on Third Street

A classic car auto show will be held on Third Street on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The following streets will be closed to through traffic from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.:

  • Third Street from Michigan Street to Park Street
  • Ohio Street from Front Street to Fourth Street
  • Hewitt Avenue from Front Street to Fourth Street
  • Prospect Street from Front Street to Fourth Street
  • Crescent Street from Front Street to Fourth Street

Traffic will be detoured using Michigan Street, Fourth Street and Magnetic Street.

To ensure no cars are parked in the event area, parking will be prohibited on Third Street between Ohio Street and Park Street beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic

On Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Pine Street from Fair Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard and Powder Mill Road from County Road 550 to the north end will be closed, and Wright Street from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic for the “Ore to Shore” Mountain Bike Race.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling on Wright Street, Hawley Street, River Park Circle and Schneider Mill Court.  Race participants will be crossing at designated locations at varying times.

Water Main Extension Along M553 South of Division Street

Starting Friday August 12, Oberstar will be working to install water main to service Rippling River Resort. The work will be occurring on the east side of M553 south of Division Street. No road closures will be needed however the shoulder will be closed and access to the multi-use path will be limited while they are working. The work is anticipated to last through August 28.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

Cinder Pond Marina Fuel

Beginning Monday, August 8 at 8:00 am, there will be no fuel sales at Cinder Pond Marina while line repairs are made.  Gasoline (premium) and diesel sales will resume late Thursday, August 11 depending on repairs and required inspections.

Opening Receptions for PWPL and DEO Galleries

On Thursday, August 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Peter White Public Library and the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will be hosting the opening receptions for the three art galleries within the walls of PWPL. The Deo Gallery is owned by the City of Marquette and is located in the basement of the PWPL in the City’s Arts & Culture Center; it is curated monthly by the Lake Superior Art Association. The Deo Gallery’s exhibit will be up through August 31. PWPL galleries’ exhibits will be up until September 10. Receptions are free and open to the public.

Paintings, Prints, and Photography inspired by the abstract and fine details of scenery and the natural world. Artist Talk at 7:00 p.m.

Huron Mountain Club Gallery (Main floor): Katherine Sirvio, From Where I Stand

Mixed Media inspired by her serene natural surroundings and the sharp edges of the world within it.


Lower Level Lobby Gallery (Outside the Deo Gallery): Sarah Reynolds, Flora

Paintings and illustrations that explore volume and abstracts of human bodies that reflect configurations found in the organic.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, August 10 from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
