On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, the Spring St. Parking Lot will be closed for cleaning beginning at 7 a.m. Permit holders should plan to park in other DDA permit lots (S. Main, Lower Commons, Baraga Lot, Rock St. Lot, Lakeshore Lot, Upper Bluff Ramp).  The DDA Maintenance Staff will block off each entrance, and the lot reopen when cleaning is complete.

The City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture presents the 26^th Annual Art Awards on Sunday, October 15, 2023. This red-carpet affair honors outstanding individuals who have made an impact on the arts and culture in Marquette. The awards show will be held at the Masonic Building’s Red Room, 128 W Washington St. This year’s awards show is made possible by Innovate Marquette Smart Zone.

This event is free and open to the public with a semi-formal suggested dress code to match the occasion. More details to come. The 26^th Annual Art Awards show will feature performances and honor this year’s recipients:

The seasonal portion of Peter White Drive in Presque Isle Park will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, August 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a Marquette Area Public Schools cross country meet.

The August 22, 2023, meeting of the Fire Police Pension Board has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 24, 2023. The meeting will be held in Room 103 at 8:30 a.m. within City Hall, 300 West Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855.

A classic car auto show will be held on Third Street on Saturday, August 19, 2023.  The following streets will be closed to through traffic from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

• Third Street from Michigan Street to Park Street
• Ohio Street from Front Street to Fourth Street
• Hewitt Avenue from Front Street to Fourth Street
• Prospect Street from Front Street to Fourth Street
• Crescent Street from Front Street to Fourth Street

Traffic will be detoured using Michigan Street, Fourth Street and Magnetic Street.

To ensure no cars are parked in the event area, parking will be prohibited on Third Street between Ohio Street and Park Street beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Blemhuber Avenue, between Altamont Street and Adams Street, will be closed to through traffic on Wednesday, August 15 beginning at 7:00 a.m. for a sewer lateral replacement. This project is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Thursday, August 17.

The regular August Board Meeting for the Marquette Board of Light and Power has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 29 at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at 2200 Wright St, Marquette MI 49855.

On Thursday, August 17, 2023, the North Main St. Parking Lot will be closed for cleaning from 7 a.m. until approximately noon.  The DDA Maintenance Staff will block off each entrance, and the lot will reopen when cleaning is complete.

On behalf of the Marquette Public Art Commission, the City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture announces the installation of the second round of ‘Words to Live and Bike By’ bike path murals on the City Multi-use Pathway.

The Words to Live and Bike By project involves the painting of six text-inspired, site-specific murals on the surface of the Holly Greer Bike Path in Marquette. Applicants were asked to submit words and original design proposals fitting for the accompanying locale. The chosen artists and their words and locations are as follows:

Emma Schramm; “EMBRACE”; 7th Street & Beacon House

Olivia Capodilupo; “GROW”; Intersection of Bike Path & Center Street

MPAC members; “INSPIRE”; S McClellan Ave across from Superior Hills Elementary School

Painting will take place August 11-13, 2023. Please be respectful and cautious on these sections of the City Multi-use Pathway during installation.

The Marquette Area Wastewater Treatment Facility Advisory Board (MAWTAB) meeting on August 17, 2023 has been rescheduled. The meeting will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023, 10 a.m., at the Marquette Wastewater Treatment Plant.
