The lower portion of the Commons Lot will be closed for parking on December 12 at 5 p.m. Cars will be allowed to exit, but no new vehicles will be allowed to enter. The lower portion of the Commons Lot will remain closed until December 13 until 9 p.m. for the Holiday Parade/Yule Market. Overnight permit holders are asked to park in the upper portion of the Commons Lot.
On Thursday, December 12, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., the Peter White Public Library and the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will be hosting the opening reception event for the new displays in the Public Gallery Program. Light refreshments provided including holiday cookies and hot chocolate. Receptions are free and open to the public. Exhibits are accessible during regular Library hours and will be on display through the end of January.

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side). The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
The Marquette City Planning Commission meetings originally scheduled for December 3, 2024, and December 17, 2024, have been canceled due to lack of business. The next scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission is January 7, 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Review, City of Marquette will meet on December 10, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 300 W. Baraga Ave, Marquette, MI for the following purposes.
1. Request for current year only for poverty exemptions, but not poverty exemptions denied by the March or July Board of Review.
2. Correct clerical errors or mutual mistake of facts.
All required forms and documentation shall be received five days prior to said meeting.

The City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture and Innovate Marquette SmartZone invites you to a special community discussion, Voices of Marquette: A Community Conversation on Belonging. This discussion forum will take place on Tuesday, December 3at 6:30 p.m. in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
This one-hour conversation is an opportunity for residents and visitors to share their stories, challenges, and ideas about what it means to belong in Marquette. Whether you’d like to participate or simply listen, this welcoming environment is designed to foster respect, understanding, and connection among all attendees. This is a free event, and attendees are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors, no RSVP is required.

Winter tax bills totaling approximately $2.2 million will be mailed to Marquette City property owners on November 26, 2024. Tax collection begins December 1, 2024, and payments are accepted at the City Treasurer’s office without penalty through February 14, 2025. A penalty of 3% is added to the winter tax bill on February 15, 2025. On March 1, 2025, taxes are delinquent and are transferred to the County Treasurer for collection.
The 2024 winter property tax bill represents millage levies for Marquette County Transit, County Aging, County Medical Care Facility, County Dispatch, County Rescue, and County Veterans’ Affairs.
The City of Marquette announces the Winter Light Festival, running from December 1 to December 31, 2024. This month-long celebration will fill the holiday season with light, art, and community events for all ages. A highlight of the festival is Oscillation, a new interactive art installation to be located at the Marquette Commons that combines light, sound, and movement, offering a unique, engaging experience for everyone. Other partner-hosted attractions include the Holiday Lasers on the Ore Dock, Downtown District Lights, Downtown Holiday Parade, City Tree Lighting, the Downtown Farmers Market’s new Yule Market, and many more community hosted events.
Community members are invited to add their own winter light-inspired events to the festival lineup by submitting them on MQTcompass.com.
The Winter Light Festival is presented by the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, Travel Marquette, and the City of Marquette. Oscillation is brought to Marquette by the City of Marquette Public Art Commission, with support from Travel Marquette and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority. Oscillation was created by The Urban Conga and tour produced by Creos.
A portion of McClellan Avenue at Grove Street will be closed for a valve box repair on Friday, November 22 beginning at 5 a.m. until completion. An alternative route will be provided.
