Christmas Tree Drop Off Sites

Properties paying the β€œSolid Waste” fee on their monthly bills are eligible to use the Christmas tree drop-off sites.Β  Owners and tenants of properties not paying the fee should contact their regular waste hauler for service.Β  These sites are supported by fees, not taxes.

Beginning December 26, 2022 through January 9, 2023 there will be two (2) drop-off sites available for Christmas tree disposal.

Site one is located at the west end of Lakeview Arena parking lot, 401 E Fair Ave. Place tree inside orange fencing.

Site two is located at Hurley Field, 240 Mesnard St. Place tree inside orange fencing.

Residents are to remove all decorations and stands before disposing of their tree.

Portion of Lakeshore Blvd Closed

Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to through traffic between Pine Street and Fair Avenue, for storm structure cleaning on Wednesday, December 28. This project will begin at 7 a.m. and is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

City of Marquette Offices Closed for Holidays

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays on the following days:

  • Friday, Dec. 23
  • Monday, Dec. 26
  • Friday, Dec. 30
  • Monday, Jan. 2

Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time.

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

DDA Holiday Parade

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, the Marquette Downtown Development Authority will be hosting the annual Holiday Parade.Β  The parade will start at the Berry Events Center parking lot and exit on to Pine Street.Β  The parade will then proceed south on Pine Street to Fair Avenue, then west on Fair Avenue to Third Street, then south on Third Street to its conclusion at Third Street & Baraga Avenue.

The following street will be closed to all traffic from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m:

  • Third Street from Bluff Street to Spring Street.

The following streets will be closed to through traffic from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m:

  • Washington Street from Front Street to Third Street
  • Washington Street from Third Street to Fourth Street
  • Main Street from Front Street to Third Street
  • Jackson Cut Alley from Fourth Street to Main Street
  • Bluff Street Alley from Front Street to Third Street

The streets will re-open upon conclusion of the parade at approximately 7:30 p.m.  

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, December 14 from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

December DDA Meeting Announcement

A regular meeting of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the Marquette Commons, 112 South Third Street. The meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m.

Public Participation

There will be two options for public participation in this meeting: in person or written. Written comments can be submitted by emailing jodi@downtownmarquette.org. Written submissions will be accepted until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
